| Policy Context | At the time this poll was conducted in July 2023, there were no age limits on Supreme Court justices. The U.S. Constitution does not specify term limits for Supreme Court justices. It says justices “shall hold their Offices during good Behaviour,” which has been widely taken to mean lifetime appointments. That has always been the practice, with many justices serving until their deaths. So, imposing term limits would likely require a constitutional amendment. |
